North Carolina's Eastern Music Festival Celebrates 50 Years in Greensboro NC


Join us at the Eastern Music Festival as we celebrate 50 years of education, music and life! The season begins on June 25 and runs five weeks through July 30, 2011. The EMF invites everyone to share in over 100 music related events and performances. 

At this years Eastern Music Festival there will be over 100 concert and music-related events throughout the 5 week festival. There is the world class Eastern Festival Orchestra, along with 2 student orchestras performing in numerous special events.  There will also be talented Guest Artists such as Wynton Marsalis and many more from all over coming to Greensboro to perform with the Festival.

MOSAIC FESTIVAL: INTERNATIONAL FOOD AND MUSIC IN DOWNTOWN GREENSBORO, NC


The 2nd Annual Mosaic Festival: International Food and Music in Downtown Greensboro (free admission!) is upon us. This year’s will be a a great time so join us as we celebrate the diversity of our community with a full schedule packed with all kinds of events and a full house of ethnic food vendors, crafts, jewelry, games for kids, plus information booths all around the park.

The 2011 Mosaic Festival will take place on Saturday, May 21st from 2pm – 8pm in Festival Park (200 N. Davie St) in downtown Greensboro. After last years attendance, the festival has been expanded the length of the event and have even added new musicians including some of North Carolina’s most popular international bands. This year’s headliners The Brand New Life (Global Jazz / Funk), Braco (Latin Rock), and Kairaba! (West African Dance Band) will perform alongside amateur musicians and dancers from more than a dozen countries around the world.

So as you wander through the marketplace listening to the wonderful assortment of international music, you can shop handmade crafts, and  jewelry.  Then when you want a break there is the ethnic street food fair featuring snacks from 15 different countries – a favorite fixture of last year’s event! Come hungry and ready to try something new! The kids will even enjoy the moomwalk.  For the Big Kids there will be Natty Greene’s Beer Garden for the adults will give everyone a chance to have fun, relax, and enjoy the show.

Mosaic Festival  2011 is put on by the Immigration and Refugee Program of Church World Service Greensboro with the generous contributions and support of our community sponsors and our volunteer planning team which includes members of Leadership Greensboro and New Arrivals Institute (among many others) who provided tremendous support, encouragement, and resources throughout the planning process.

The U.S. Figure Skating officals have confirmed that January 22 thru the 30th, 2011 Greensboro, North Carolina will host 1,500 skaters for the U.S. Figure Skating Championships! 

NBC will be covering the event nationally.

There will be sixteen separate ticketed events, with competitors from novice to champions from the 2010 Olympics.

Well, after one night of prep and one day of cooking we had the 7th annual Men Can Cook benefit for the Greensboro's Women's Resource Center.  Overall I would say we had a good night.  I made a Moroccan Chicken dish over couscous.  Needless to say I made alot.  I was told to expect over 400 people.  My experience with benefits is like weddings some of the these people I think starve themselves for days before coming.  Everything went over very well and I even got a few leads.  I was not really advertising myself since this was a benefit for the Women's Center but I did put my cards out and if anyone wanted the recipe they are just to email me and I will email it back to them.  I was too busy to write anything down since I was serving the whole time.  It lasted from 6 till 9 and was fun.  I will say this though I now remember why way back when I sold my restaurant and changed careers.  That is a young man's game for sure.
