To show a passionate side of Greensboro there are many places to look. One that I know of personally and am involved with is the Greyhound Friends of North Carolina. We have satellite facilities across the state but, our main kennel is right outside Greensboro in the wonderful suburb of Oak Ridge. We can house up to forty of these "gentle giants". I personally have four of these wonderfully gentle creatures. As you can see here Dusty my first hound loves playing with my youngest.
These hounds are amazingly loving even after what some of them have been through. They are raised in a loveless environment with only one thing on their owner's mind RUN! Then to further dispel more myths they are not hyper dogs. They are sprinters so they would prefer just a little exercise and then they transform to couch potatoes for hours and hours. They are crate trained from birth so they are already house trained when they come to us. Of course you can see the sweet little boy with his teddy and no I did not put it there.
Then of course this is the first matched set that my wife and I had. So they are rather close. My fiancé at the time would bring her girl Piper to visit Dusty and I at my home. I bought a 160 year old farm house and was renovating it.
We go up to the kennel and volunteer on the weekend. As you can imagine there is a lot of work involved in taking care of that many dogs. The good feeling you can get is when one of these wonderful loving dogs is adopted out to a loving family. The website for our kennel is www.greyhoundfriends.com. One great thing to see is Saturday mornings at the kennel when many of the local greyhound families come to the kennel and we have "play group". This is where we bring our "furkids" to come and play with other hounds. If you want to see an awesome sight wait until you see 15 to 20 greyhounds running free! So if you are in town and want a great pet come on down we have one just for you.
